What if it rains?

Hincapie Gran Fondo will start rain or shine; however, in the event of a severe storm or inclement weather, authorities may decide to cancel the event and will make the call at the last minute.

What type of bike can I ride for the event?

  • We suggest using a road bike as it is the best option to ride in groups.
  • You can also ride a mountain bike, touring bike, or single speed (with two brakes). A triathlon bike is fine as long as you keep your hands on the brake lever while riding in a group.
  • Recumbent bikes, tandem bikes, trailers, and bike seats are not allowed for safety reasons.
  • Carbon clincher wheels are prohibited on all courses. They may overheat and fail on the difficult descents.

Can I use my carbon clincher wheels?

While few and far between, the majority of past wrecks stem directly from carbon clincher wheels overheating and failing on the course’s descents. For this reason, we do not allow carbon clincher wheels on the course, although carbon clinchers with an aluminum braking service or carbon tubular wheelsets WILL be allowed. This rule is meant for your safety; due to the steep and technical descents on the Gran and Medio courses, it is highly possible that your wheels could fail, causing injury not only to you but also to other cyclists riding behind you.

What should I wear?

Helmets with buckled chin straps are a requirement for all riders and must be worn at all times. Headphones of any kind are not allowed. Also make sure your bib number is pinned to the back of your jersey.

Can I still buy a jersey if I choose to do the 15 or 50 mile ride?

Of course, you can still add a jersey to your order during online registration for the PICCOLO (15 MILE), and then pick it up when you receive your ride packet. Additional jerseys will be available for sale at the expo, but stock is not guaranteed so pre-ordering is the best way to make sure you get the size you need.

We also have a limited selection of other Gran Fondo Hincapie merchandise available for preorder only during the registration process.

Do you provide a bag drop?

Yes, you can check in one bag. Please bring a small, inexpensive and waterproof bag. Don’t leave any valuables in the bag as Gran Fondo Hincapie is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. The bags will be picked up at the start and returned at the finish line.
